Large speculation out of Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston have the Flyers, Blackhawks and Bruins interested in big Keith Primeau of Carolina, who's a restricted free agent. Primeau's negotiations have not been going along well with Carolina and might very well be moved to one of the afore mentioned suitors. The various packages are reported to be, Philadelphia: Defensive prospect Mark Eaton, highly touted center Simon Gagne, and big d-man Chris Therien, Chicago: Big forward Eric Daze, physical d-man Jamie Allison, and d-man Bryan Muir, and Boston: speedy winger Shawn Bates, big forward Anson Carter, and d-man Mattias Timander. Personally, I think Boston's package is best. Tell me what you think in our Message Boards
The New York Rangers have recently been interested in former player Ulf Samuelsson, whom they traded at the trading deadline to Detroit last season. Samuelsson would fill his old big bruiser role, now that Jeff Beukeboom has retired.
There is vast speculation that the N.Y. Rangers will blow UFA Theoren Fleury out of the water with their impending offer. Other teams interested in little Theo are rumored to be L.A., San Jose, and Philadelphia.
It seems that a few of Fleury's Avalanche teammates could join the feisty winger on a trek to New York. It is rumored that Valeri Kamensky and Sylvain Lefebvre could follow on the Rangers free agent wish list. Kamensky, however, is all but a lock to sign with the Russian-laden Florida Panthers, where he could play with some of his close friends. Lefebvre could be an easy target for the Rangers because although effective, is not a "hot" commodity. Another possible departing Avalanche d-man will be Alexei Gusarov, who the 'Lanche don't intend to resign. Suitors for Gusarov are Carolina and St. Louis, with the Blues having the upper hand because Joel Quenneville was the assistant coach for Gusarov in Colorado.
It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Nashville Predators will land blueliner Lance Pitlick. Pitlick, although widely unknown, could provide some stability to the Pred's ailing blueline.
Wendel Clark appears to be the next future Hall member to don an Oilers jersey. Rumors are swirling that not many want the veteran winger, but Edmonton would like to sign him to complement Doug Weight if they keep him.
New rumors are circulating around Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ron Hextall. It is said that Hextall, who was left unprotected for the 1999 Entry Draft, will retire come mid-Summer. The new backup goaltender spot will be taken up by either Jean-Marc Pelletier and/or Brian Boucher.
Joe Juneau, a free agent at the end of this season and a member of this years Eastern Conference Champion team the Buffalo Sabres, is being sought out by the NJ Devils. The Devils are interested in signing the forward.
Rumors persist that the Vancouver Canucks will unload Bryan McCabe, and some of their pricy veterans (i.e. Brad May, Alexander Mogilny, Dana Murzyn) to Pittsburgh, Chicago, or Montreal. Montreal may look to replace Malakhov with McCabe. Look for them to ante up Brett Clark and Eric Houde, two youngsters who could benefit the Canucks this year.
In June 16th's Philadelphia Daily News, they say that the Philadelphia Flyers have been talking to Dallas about their backup goaltender and free agent to be Roman Turek.
Other sources have said the LA is offering Scott Barney, Mattieu Biron, Josh Green, Matt Johnson and the Eighth overall pick for Zigmund Palffy, Bryan Smolinski, and Mike Watt.

Also, the New York Times reports now that besides the LA Kings, Anaheim and Calgary are also interested in Palffy. Now Palffy on the Ducks with Selanne and Kariya, thats a scary thought!
Now that the Palffy deal to the Rangers has stalled, the LA Kings have put in their bid. The Kings have supposedly offered Scott Green, prospects Matthew Biron and Josh Green, the 8th overall pick , and cash for Palffy and Pilon.
The New Jersey Devils have reportedly been hot on the trail of either Joe Sakic or
Alexei Yashin. Most are saying Sakic but rumors about Yashin have been tossed around.
According to the Sporting News' Ralph Vacchiano, the Devils are also
pursuing Vladimir Malakhov of the Montreal Canadiens. Vacchiano says that the
Devils are looking for a mobile defensemen to compliment Scott Niedermayer.
Many are saying that the LA Kings are hot in pursuit of Ziggy Palffy. They have
stuck in their bid for the Isles superstar and if the Rangers trade doesn't go through,
expect the Kings to make a great deal. With the Kings new Staples Center, they are trying to attract the biggest crowd possible. Crowds come with superstars and Palffy is just that.
If the Palffy trade does go through, expect the San Jose Sharks to propose Zyzuin
for Sundstrom
Also if the Palffy trade goes through, expect the NY Rangers to make a
solid offer for Theoren Fleury. Fleury, an unrestricted free agent from Colorado, has been reported to have already gotten phone calls from Wayne Gretzky telling Fleury to take the Rangers offer into serious consideration.
During the NHL Draft, it is reported that Vancouver will trade Brian McCabe and
Alexander Mogilny to Chicago for their 4th overall pick. This move would be made so
Vancouver could get the highly acclaimed Sedin Twins.
